About Maria Trusa

Keynote Speaker, Author & Survivor Advocate

Maria Trusa is a Dominican-born entrepreneur, author, and advocate whose work focuses on resilience, healing, personal transformation, and breaking the silence surrounding sexual abuse. After immigrating to the United States as a teenager, she built a long career in healthcare leadership and later helped establish Formé Medical Center, which serves vulnerable members of the Hispanic community.

Drawing from her own experience as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, Maria founded the #YoDigoNoMás movement, an initiative dedicated to education, survivor support, prevention, and helping others begin their healing journey. Her autobiographical book, Yo Digo No Más, shares her story of trauma, resilience, and recovery, and her advocacy has grown into speaking engagements, community initiatives, and media projects focused on ending the silence around abuse.

At the 2026 What Happens in Mama’s House… Breaking the Cycle symposium, Maria served as the keynote speaker, opening the day with “Reclaiming One’s Self, Shaping One’s Destiny.” Her message of courage, healing, and transformation closely reflected the symposium’s mission of helping survivors reclaim their voices while encouraging communities to create stronger systems of support.
